CHARACTERISTICS
China roots are found in primary rainforest habitats of Costa Rica and other Central American countries. It is a vine with thorny stems that have shiny smooth alternating leaves. The flowers are small and green and the seed capsules are brown. The tuber is the primary part of the plant used to create medicinals.
MEDICINAL USAGE
China root has a reputation as a blood purifier, sudorific and a revitalizer. It is said to treat anemia, general weakness, impotency, skin, kidney and bladder problems. To use, wash the tuber thoroughly and cut into small pieces and allow it to dry in the sun. Boil about 5 or 6 g of per liter of water or milk for at least 20 minutes. In Belize, cinnamon and nutmeg are used to spice up the drink. The root of cuculmeca is thicker than the zarzaparrilla and is brick colored.
In pharmacology it is a tonic, nutritive, diuretic, antiherpetic and depurative.

CARACTERÍSTICAS
La Raíz de China se encuentra en hábitats de bosques tropicales primarios de Costa Rica y otros países centroamericanos. Es una enredadera con tallos espinosos que tiene hojas alternas suaves y brillantes. Las flores son pequeñas y verdes, y las cápsulas de las semillas son de color marrón. El tubérculo es la parte principal de la planta y es utilizado para crear productos medicinales.
USO MEDICINAL
Es purificadora de la sangre, sudorífica y como revitalizadora. Se la utiliza para tratar la anemia, debilidad general, impotencia, problemas en la piel, riñones y vejiga. Para su uso, lavar los tubérculos a fondo, cortarlos en pequeños trozos y secarlos al sol. Hervir de 5 a 6 gramos por cada litro de agua o leche, durante al menos 20 minutos. En Belice, utilizan, la canela y la nuez moscada para darle sabor a la bebida. La raíz de la Cuculmeca es más gruesa que la zarzaparilla y de color ladrillo.
En farmacología, la Raíz de China es un tónico nutritivo, diurético, antiséptico y depurativo.
