CHARACTERISTICS

Es una planta trepadora que alcanza los 9 metros de longitud. Hojas alternadas grandes y flores muy llamativas con una combinación de colores en la misma flor que van desde el blanco hasta el rozado y el azul pálido.. Su nombre se lo dieron los españoles ya que encontraron que esta flor se parecia a la corona de espinas de cristo ya que presenta estambres muy bien demarcados. Existen más de cincuenta variedades de passiflora, algunas de ellas muy valoradas farmacológicamente.
USOS
Muy apreciadas como ornamentales por la belleza de sus flores y por su aroma dulcete suave.
USOS MEDICINALES
Se suelen utilizar sus hojas y flores combinadas, en tés y extractos, para calmar los nervios y combatir el insomnio. Igualmente se le atribuyen efectos calmantes en los cólicos menstruales y se sabe que mejora los síntomas de la menopausia.
