CHARACTERISTICS
It is a shrub with a branched stem that reaches a height between 6-10 meters high. Its use in Costa Rica dates back to the 19th century. Two varieties are known, one with green leaves and the other with brown leaves.
MEDICINAL USAGE
They are used in infusion as a blood purifier in cases of venereal diseases and also to treat gastrointestinal ulcers and colic. The leaves and seeds also have purgative and emetic properties. The bark is also used as a purifying agent. Used in high concentrations it is toxic and can cause severe allergic reactions.

CARACTERÍSTICAS
Se trata de un arbusto con tallo ramificado que alcanza una altura entre 6-10 metros de alto. Su uso en Costa Rica se remonta al siglo XIX. En Costa Rica se conocen dos variedades, una con hojas verdes y la otra con hojas café.
USOS MEDICINALES
se utilizan en infusión como un depurativo de la sangre en casos de enfermedades venereas y también para tratar úlceras gastrointestinales y cólicos. Las hojas y las semillas presentan además propiedades purgativas y eméticas. La corteza es igualmente utilizada como un depurativo. Utilizado en altas concentraciones resulta tóxica y puede provocar reacciones alérgicas severas.
