CHARACTERISTICS
It is a shrub that reaches a height of up to 2 meters. It grows freely along roadsides, in grasslands and vacant lots.
USAGE
In the Southern Caribbean of Costa Rica it is used as a living fence because it is fast growing and very resistant. It is also found in gardens as an ornamental plant.
MEDICINAL USAGE
Traditionally it has been used to treat a large number of skin conditions such as mosquito and other insect bites, burns as well as infections of various types. Its antifungal and antibacterial properties are recognized. Reduces itching. To do this, several leaves are boiled in water and applied directly to the affected area.

CARACTERÍSTICAS
Es un arbusto que alcanza una altura de hasta 2 metros. Crece libre a la orilla de los caminos, en los pastizales y terrenos baldios.
USOS
En el Caribe Sur de Costa Rica se utiliza como cerca viva debido a que es de rápido crecimiento y muy resistente. También se le encuentra en los jardines como planta ornamental.
USOS MEDICINALES
Tradicionalmente se ha utilizado para tratar un gran número de afecciones de la piel tales como picaduras de mosquitos y otros insectos, quemaduras al igual que infecciones de diversos tipos. Se reconocen sus propiedades antifúngicas y antibacterianas. Reduce la picazón. Para ello se hierven varias hojas en agua y se aplica directamente en el área afectada.
