CHARACTERISTICS
They are large herbaceous plants that grow up to one and a half meters tall. They are characterized by their branches that grow in a spiral shape. It has white flowers at the end of the branch that grow from a purple base.
USAGE
They grow along roadsides and in vacant and muddy lands in the Southern Caribbean of Costa Rica. It prefers a semi-shaded area although it grows well in the sun. Its flower is very attractive so it is common to see it also decorating the gardens of homes.
MEDICINAL USAGE
In the East it is highly valued for its multiple medicinal uses. Risoma is used to reduce fever, asthma, bronchitis, skin rashes, leprosy, kidney and urinary problems and as a purgative.

CARACTERÍSTICAS
Son grandes plantas herbáceas que crecen un metro y medio de altura. Se caracterizan por sus ramas que crecen en forma de espiral. Presenta flores blancas en el extremo de la rama que nacen de una base de color morada.
USOS
Crecen a la orilla de los caminos y en los terrenos baldios y fangosos en el Caribe Sur de Costa Rica. Prefiere una zona de semisombra aunque crece bien al sol. Su flor es muy atractiva por lo que es común verla también adornando los jardines de las casas.
USOS MEDICINALES
En oriente es muy valorada por sus múltiples usos medicinales, el risoma se utiliza para bajar la fiebre, asma, bronquitis, erupciones cutáneas, lepra, problemas renales, urinarios y como purgante.
